It’s a new month and a new year so I am setting new goals!
Tomorrow is the first of the month and next week is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. So it seemed like the perfect time to set new goals. I am never one to set resolutions on January 1st – I think it sets me up for failure when I don’t accomplish them. I am more into smaller victories, small goals, more practical things I can accomplish.
The summer was very hectic and I focused a lot on school and Holistic Happening and launching the business with Kayla. It has taken a lot of time and effort, but I have never been happier. I have also never been more tired. So this month I want to focus on slowing down, saying ‘no’ to more things and focusing on a few smaller events, workouts and hangouts, rather than trying to be involved with everything. I am not going to pretend like October is going to be a slow month – I have something planned every weekend, but it is all things I really want to do and it also means that I will make sure that weeknights are more free so I can spend more time relaxing, resting and spending time with Ryan.
A few things I am looking forward to in October include Medi Club on the first Wednesday of the month, The Big Quiet on Sunday October 16th and Medi Circle on October 26th. This month I get the best of all of Medi Club including the 150 person meditation, the 2,000 person meditation taking place at the World Trade Center Oculus, and the 10 person Medi Circle. I have been attending the Women’s Only circle which has been really different for me because I have always been a guys girl because I always saw women as competition, but this group has been so empowering and uplifting and it has been great to open up about issues of love, sex and relationships without any men in the room to judge. I have loved the energy of the people at Medi Club, all coming together to meditate and The Big Quiet is such a large and fascinating event that really shows the power of this community and everyone’s desire to be happy and well.
Kayla and I also have Holistic Happening #4 occurring on October 25th and after such a successful event in September with our biggest attendance to date, we have already started planning and getting excited.
I was also invited to Mindful Health NYC Women’s Retreat at the Hudson Valley. This takes place October 21-24 and if you want to join I’d love to see you there! It is my first ever wellness retreat and also another step outside of my comfort zone spending 4 days and 3 nights with a group of strangers, and a group of women.
My girl friends have always been fun to hang out with, but there always seems to be competition to be the prettiest, the smartest and one up each other in experiences. What I have learned the past year through this journey is that those relationships with women are not normal and that we should be supporting each other, inspiring one another and empowering one another to be the best version of ourselves. There will always be food bloggers, fitness experts and health coaches, but there is only one of you and one of me and no one else can be that person. So we have to support each other to be ourselves and create a healthy community where we all thrive.
The Mindful Health NYC Retreat will focus on revitalizing energy, relaxing and working on emotionally healing the body and soul It will feature farm-to-table meals, daily yoga, massages, sound healing and chakra healing workshops. This experience is completely new to me and I am so excited to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the usual routine and experience nature and get in touch with myself mind, body and soul.
Well now that all of those busy things I have planned are out of the way, I am also committing to a month at Y7 Yoga. I need to get back into working out because I miss feeling toned and strong and Y7 is a fabulous yoga class that requires the strength of the body and mind. It is also heated with an infrared sauna so it is great for detox. I have said before that I need accountability when I work out so I am teaming up with Samantha from The Sweat Chronicles and we will motivate each other to go to class 3 days a week before work.
The new Upper East Side studio has showers which makes this a lot easier to do before work. But I have been having a huge adrenal flare up where I am wide awake at night and exhausted every morning and sleeping through my alarm, so this Yoga challenge is going to be just that, a challenge! But having Samantha expecting me to go to class every morning will hopefully get me up and out of bed and excited to work out!
So here are my goals for October and the start to the new year:
- Plan and execute Holistic Happening #4 on October 25th.
- Attend 3 Y7 yoga classes a week.
- Have dinner with Ryan at home during the work week 2 days a week (no cell phone or television while we eat).
- Turn off my cell phone and television at 10pm every night and fall asleep by 11pm.
- Relax – attend medi club and Mindful health NYC retreat and spend time without my cell phone, without my work, without any worry or concern. Let go of expectations and fear and be present in the moment.
What are your goals for the month of October? And do you like setting goals every month or 1 or 2 resolutions each year?
