A chocolate milkshake without all the crap – just the creamy deliciousness you crave!
When I was growing up, my mom would treat me and my brother to chocolate milkshakes once a week after school. I remember hearing the blender roaring in the kitchen when we walked in the door on those very special afternoons and I would get so excited for that cold, chocolatey treat!
This morning I woke up craving that taste and flavor and creaminess and made the healthiest, chocolatiest version of my mom’s milkshake. It reminded me so much of those carefree days as a child and how much I have been influenced by my mom. I grew up with home-cooked meals every night, family breakfast every morning before school, and weekend trips together to the beach house. My parents raised me and my brother to eat real food and showed us the value in preparing a dish from the heart for others. Growing up with these things instilled in me is what has motivated me to cook for my own family for their health and happiness. My family is what has inspired me to follow my dreams in life and see the value of community, connection and realness in our interactions with others.
So this chocolate milkshake is dedicated to my mom and her greatness that I hope is within me.
What’s in this thick and creamy concoction? Avocado, cacao, dates, Califiafarms Toasted Coconut Almond Milk and Nuttzo Smooth 7 Nuts & Seed butter. This milkshake doesn’t have banana, but you can certainly swap the avocado for a frozen banana to get the same creamy texture. But I prefer avocados in my smoothies because they are a superfood fruit with many health benefits!
Health benefits of avocado include:
- stabilizes blood sugar
- source of potassium
- source of protein (great for vegetarians and vegans and no need for protein powder)
- boosts your immune system
- contains Vitamin A, C, E, K, and B6
- anti-fungal, anti-tumor, anti-aging properties
- contains healthy mono-saturated fats which are good for your heart
- source of fiber which aids in digestion
I could seriously go on about the health benefits of avocado, and I certainly eat my fair share of them every day! I love a creamy avocado on my salad, or an avocado dressing with my zucchini noodles. There is seriously never not a good time to eat avocados. And starting your morning with an avocado will help regulate your blood sugar so you don’t have a sugar rush early in your day followed by a mid-day crash. The dates also provide a good source of insoluble fiber which is good at moving the digestive system along, helping promote good bowel movements and removing toxins from the body.
I decided this morning to go with a chocolate smoothie bowl so that I could add all of my favorite toppings. These included Bare Snacks Chocolate and Toasted Coconut Chips, fresh blueberries, Salba chia seeds and enjoy life foods mini chocolate chips. The Bare Snacks coconut chips added the perfect amount of crunch to this creamy bowl and were packed with a lot of flavor.
Coconut is an amazing source of fuel for the body and contains Vitamins A and E which benefit healthy skin!
What I love about Bare Snacks is that unlike other fruit and coconut chips on the market, these have no added sugar. They are completely transparent about ingredients, which for most of the fruit and coconut chips only have 1 ingredient. You know exactly what you’re getting when you open a bag of fruit or coconut chips and even though it seems simple, they’re completely delicious! The chips are gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free (except for the coconut chips) and contain no artificial ingredients. They’re the real deal when it comes to smoothie bowl or salad toppings or just a delicious clean eating snack on the go!
This milkshake is so much more than a chocolate fix, it’s a superfood healthy powerhouse.
I hope you enjoy and feel motivated!
