Reiki is love. Love is wholeness. Wholeness is balance. Balance is well being. Well being is freedom from disease – Dr. Mikao Usui
I never considered myself a healer. I see myself as a guide who provides support for those who want help. And even that seems scary to me. My wellness journey was always my own, but my friends and family always pushed me to share my knowledge and my story with others because it would help them on their own journey. That is why I enrolled at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I wanted to add credibility to my own wellness so I could share it with others.
As I went through the course and developed Holistic Happening, I learned more about myself. I was letting go of fear and worry, and finding who I really wanted to be. And who I want to be is a source of energy for others. And that is why I decided to go through Reiki One Training.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an alternative health practice where energy is passed from the practitioner to the patient. Reiki promotes full body wellness by allowing for relaxation of the mind and body.
What Reiki isn’t
Reiki is not a massage and a practitioner does not have to touch a patient in order to give Reiki. The flow of energy is transferred from the practitioner to the patient through different layers of the aura.
What happens during a Reiki session?
During a reiki session, the patient lies fully clothed on a table and the practitioner places their hands on or around the patients body. The practitioner keeps their hands in a particular position for about 3 minutes before moving to the next part of the body. The practitioner scans the body for imbalances within the body that are aligned with the 7 chakras. They move on from a particular position when they feel that the chakra energy has been released.
What does Reiki feel like?
Every person will experience Reiki different. Some people can feel tingling in their body. Some experience a warming sensation. Patients can experience an emotional response as energy flows through their body. And others feel completely relaxed in the moment. The experience is completely individualized and not one person will experience Reiki in the same way.
Who can become a Reiki practitioner?
Anyone can be a Reiki practitioner after they have been attuned with Reiki energy. Reiki can also be given to anyone as it is a non-invasive form of energy healing. Reiki can be given to to the self, others, animals, water or food.
Why did I train in Reiki One?
I have been learning a lot about myself the past few months. I have been letting go of tension, worry, fear, anger and anything that doesn’t bring me happiness. And as I have let go, a new sense of freedom and happiness has occurred with in me. I have felt an overwhelming sense of joy, light and energy that I want to share with others. The energy flowing within me deserves to be passed along so that others can feel well.
My Experience With Reiki One Training
Our Reiki One Instructor was Gwen Gaydos and I cannot see enough amazing things about her. Gwen’s energy was so amazing and she brought so much joy to our training!
It was a small group of 4 people which made for an extremely intimate day. We learned the history of Reiki, hand techniques and after Gwen attuned us with Reiki energy, we learned to self-heal and treat others.
I felt completely energized and calm at the same time all morning. I felt focused and happy. As the day went on I became extremely thirsty and chugged a gallon of water throughout the afternoon and evening. I was also starving and tired. I fell asleep easily at 9:30pm and this is after a week of restless nights of sleep!
In the past 24 hours I have been feeling lightheaded and dizzy. But Gwen assured us that it is normal. This is because my body is detoxing since the immune system was attuned and the best way to ease symptoms is to drink a lot of water. This will help flush out the toxins during the 21 day detox phase.
What are my goals as a Reiki One Trainer?
Reiki attunement is passed from teacher to student and it exists within the student for the rest of their life. After experiencing Reiki One training, I plan to continue to heal myself through positive energy, meditation and spiritual guidance. It is a starting point for me to explore using healing energies for myself and for others. As I sit with the Reiki attunment with in me, I will decide whether to move forward with Reiki Two Training.
As part of Reiki One training, it is recommended that I experience a 21 day cleanse where I perform self Reiki therapy every day and practice giving Reiki to others. After the 21 days, I plan to seek out Reiki Two training with Gwen.
And thank you to my fabulous friend Lauren for inviting me on this journey with her and opening my heart and mind to Reiki!
